The Board of Management is the body of persons or the person(s) appointed by the patron to manage the school on behalf of the patron. The functions of the Board of Management are set out in section 15 of the Education Act, 1998. The Board of Management of Shanagarry NS manages the school on behalf of the patron, Bishop William Crean, the Catholic Bishop of Cloyne. The Board of Management is accountable to the patron and the Minister for Education. Holy Family NS is a Catholic co-educational primary school with a Catholic ethos under the patronage of the Bishop of Cloyne, Bishop William Crean. While Holy Family NS is a school with a Catholic ethos, it also has due recognition for all other religions.
Boards of Management are appointed for a four year term. The term of the current Board of Management is from 1st December 2019 to 30th November 2023. The Chairperson is appointed by the Patron. Board members are not delegates of their electorates, e.g. teacher representative, parent representative. They do not report back to their electorates, take instruction from their electorates, bring parental complaints, teacher complaints, or the Parents Association's issues to the Board. Issues such as these are dealt with through the agreed complaints procedure or brought to the Board of
Management through the Principal. Individual members of the Board are obliged to keep matters discussed at meetings confidential unless agreed by the
Board.
